Public Gifts to the District Gifts which may serve to enhance and extend the work of the schools may be received by the district. It will be the district’s general policy to direct those who desire to make contributions to consider equipment or services that are not likely to be acquired from public fund expenditures.

Authorized Use of District Equipment and Materials The Board believes that although district equipment is purchased by tax dollars, the equipment is primarily purchased to provide for and/or enhance students’ educational programs.

Public Responsibility for Facility Usage The Board supports the community education concept, which encourages the use of district facilities by community members for recreation, education and service activities. A Building Use Request must be submitted by the person or group to the school office three or more days prior to the use date.

Tobacco-Free Environment It is the school’s obligation to protect the health, welfare and safety of students. In light of scientific evidence that the use of tobacco is hazardous to health, and to be consistent with district curriculum and Oregon law, student possession, use, distribution or sale of tobacco in any form on district premises,

Firearms Prohibited {Oregon law has allowed members of the public possessing a concealed carry license to carry firearms on district property in accordance with ORS 166.370(3) (g). Senate Bill (SB) 554 (2021) allows districts to prohibit even those with concealed carry licenses from carrying firearms by adopting a policy and posting notice at entry points

Community Use of District Facilities PROCEDURES AND CONDITIONS FOR USE 1. Facility use may be requested by contacting the Building Usage Coordinator at the District Office. An approved facility usage agreement must be in place prior to use for all individuals and groups.

Community Use of District Facilities The Board believes that, while the facilities of the district are primarily for the use of the school program, there is a secondary responsibility to the community at large. To this end, the school facilities are available to the community and to groups within the community whenever said use does not conflict with the school program and subject to the criteria enumerated below.

Public Records In compliance with Oregon law the following guidelines apply to the dissemination, inspection and examination of the public records of the district: 1. All requests for information must be made through the superintendent’s office located at 525 East Cascade Avenue, Sisters, Oregon 97759;

Public Records** “Public record” means any information that: 1. Is prepared, owned, used or retained by the district; 2. Is related to an activity, transaction or function of the district, and 3. Is necessary to satisfy the fiscal, legal, administrative or historical policies, requirements or needs of the district.

District-Community Relations Goals and Objectives The Board’s goals for achieving positive school-community relations are: 1. To develop public understanding of all aspects of school operations; to ascertain public attitudes toward issues in education; and to identify the public’s educational expectations for their children.
